Global History I: By examining such concepts as belief systems, change, conflict, factors of production, geography, imperialism, movement of people and goods, nationalism, scarcity, technology, and urbanization, among others, students will gain a deep understanding of trends in global history. The first semester of the course begins with the origins of human civilization and proceeds into the Classical age of Greece and Rome, ending with a study of the medieval period in Europe and the expansion of Islam. Second semester begins with the study of culture, conquest, and trade in pre-colonial and colonial Africa, Asia, and the Americas, investigates the rebirth of Europe during the Renaissance and its expansion in the Age of Exploration, and ends with Europe’s Age of Absolutism. Students will read The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli and learn the art of Team Debate.
