Participation in Government

Participation in Government: In this one semester course, students will explore comparative government systems, with a principal focus on the American political system. Students will study the theoretical foundations and origins of the American government, specifically the foundation in Enlightenment thought. The three branches of American government will be studied in detail, as well as a thorough outline of the American legal system. Students will be required to take an active role in the local political process and analyze current events and their implications. They will debate, write approximately one research paper per semester, and earn required community service hours for graduation at Maspeth High School.
