Dear Maspeth Families,
It is an honor to introduce myself as the acting principal of Maspeth High School. With great anticipation and excitement, I look forward to meeting each member of Maspeth’s community, including you.
I grew up in Sunnyside, Queens and am a product of public education. I received my bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts and master’s degree in Special Education at Queens College. I completed the School Building Leadership program at Hunter College before serving as Assistant Principal of English Language Arts and English New Language at Flushing High School for the last five years. Here I am today, excited to lead as principal of Maspeth’s distinguished and diverse community.
As a parent of a four-year-old son, Arel, who will begin pre-kindergarten in September, I am experiencing first-hand the excitement and fear that the new school year brings. I know what I need for my own child: A safe building, filled with teachers who are loving and encouraging and leaders who put the needs of children first.
At Maspeth, we are ready to welcome each student and meet them where they are socially, emotionally, and academically. By instituting a new daily morning homeroom for all students, we will ensure that each student has an adult who knows them well and can answer questions and address concerns. Through our partners at Catholic Charities and Glendale Mental Health Clinic, students will be provided therapeutic services that they may need or desire. Our guidance counselors and teachers are prepared and will receive additional training to provide students the supports to be healthy and successful. In addition to all our resources and programs, our comfort dog, Eli, joined the Maspeth community this summer and is eager to meet everyone.
I will continue to reach out with updates and opportunities to have “Coffee with the Principal” in-person meetings as well as virtual meetings and hope to meet each and every one of you soon.
