12th Grade ELA

The first semester of 12th grade focuses on the work of two of America’s most influential authors: James Baldwin and Octavia Butler. Through an intensive study of their novels If Beale Street Could Talk and Parable of the Sower, students will prepare for college-level reading and analytic work while grappling with some of the most pressing issues that shape our past, present, and future. The second semester pushes students towards shaping their own inquiry-based study. The first term will focus on the “Save the World” research project, where students will explore solutions to worldwide problems while familiarizing themselves with the research process. Second term, students will engage in Book Club-style reading, allowing them a more self-guided approach to applying the skills they’ve developed over the four years of high school.
