Reclamation of nycstudents.net Apple IDs

DIIT will implement a security setting on student NYC Public School accounts (nycstudents.net) to restrict these accounts from being used for private, non-NYCPS activities. This change will reclaim the email addresses used as personal Apple IDs and reissue the accounts as NYCPS-managed Apple IDs.  

What is the impact?   

Beginning Wednesday, November 5, 2025, more than 3,600 students who have used their @nycstudents.net account as a personal Apple ID will receive an email from Apple requiring them to update their account within thirty days

Can students “opt out” of this activity? 

No. Personal Apple IDs have access to tools, applications, and features that are not approved for use in NYC Public Schools. This change is required to protect our students from non-NYCPS interactions and to safeguard the @nycstudents.net domain from the consequences of misuse.
