Principal's Message School Year 2025 - 2026

September 9, 2025

Dear Maspeth Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!

It has been a true pleasure to welcome your children back to school over the past few days. Their energy and excitement have brought new life to our hallways, and we are thrilled to embark on another year of learning, growth, and community together.

At Maspeth High School, we are deeply committed to providing a safe, supportive, and academically rigorous environment for every student. Our team of educators is not only focused on instruction, but on fostering a school culture where students feel seen, respected, and inspired. From the moment students walk through our doors, they are surrounded by adults who care deeply about their well-being and success.

A key part of our work this year is helping students grow into the kind of graduates we proudly send into the world. At Maspeth, every student is encouraged to embody the qualities outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate:

  • Organized in their approach to work and time
  • Investigative in their thinking and problem-solving
  • Empathetic in their relationships and understanding of others
  • Communicative in their expression and collaboration
  • Ambitious in setting and pursuing meaningful goals

These five core competencies are more than just words- they are the foundation of the student experience here. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in leadership roles, our students will have countless opportunities to develop these skills throughout the year.

We also continue to prioritize student safety and emotional well-being. From secure building practices to increased social-emotional supports, we are working every day to make Maspeth a safe and welcoming environment. Our continued Distraction-Free Schools Plan is another step toward creating a focused, connected community where students are fully present in both their learning and their relationships.

Academically, we remain focused on excellence. Through a rich curriculum, supportive staff, and a range of extracurricular opportunities, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, explore their interests, and build the habits that will carry them far beyond high school.

We believe that strong schools are built on strong partnerships. I encourage you to stay engaged with us by attending events, joining the PTA, and connecting with your child’s teachers and school leaders. Your involvement makes all the difference.

Thank you for being a vital part of our community and for trusting us with your child’s education. Let’s make this school year one of learning, connection, and lasting growth.

Warm regards,
Principal S. Alicanoglu
