hello everyone I'd like to thank you and welcome you all to the 2020 School reopening proposal for Maspeth High School. I'm Stefan Singh I'll be one of the few staff members presenting this proposal. before I begin I'd like to just start by making it very clear that this is not an official approved plan for reopening Maspeth High in September this is a proposal that is being shared with all of you in the interest of transparency and in the interest of gathering feedback from you and answering any questions you might have about what we believe in discussing with RSO is the best and safest plan to reopen in September now once you guys see this video you will be given a link to provide us with some can ask some questions and once you we will use that information to plan a town hall meeting where we can answer some of those questions so before we jump into the actual Maspeth High School plan I want to talk to you guys a little bit of how to deal with models that exist pacifically model to now the dod has three base models that they voted and approved for schools to use however schools have the ability to apply exemption to modify vdoe model model 2 is what you're looking at on the screen now dealing model 2 has three cohorts of students group a Kirby in group C are going to be coming in on consistent days of the week so groupees and on Wednesday PS in on Thursday and C is in on Friday now to understand exactly what's Happening Here Google Classroom has about 32 to 34 students in using this model we would take 30 for students and put them into a class and then split that class into three groups of 11 to 12 students 11 to 12 of them are going to come on Wednesday the rest are going to come on Thursday play and Friday and then on Monday and Tuesday groups a B and C are going to rotate we're in week one we're going to have group a and Group B coming in on Monday Tuesday and weak to we're going to have group E in graffiti and then in a week 3 we're going to have Christian group a so we're going to three weeks span of time each group of students last 5 days when person instruction in school building participating in a remote courses get the concerns we have with just going with this model the way it's written is that according to the DMV guidelines a standard Maspeth high school classroom can fit approximately 12 people, consider it a little bit more but 12 people this include students and staff it's not just students so the goal is to have these 12 people in the room all be able to socially distance and have a class be conducted in that way our proposal will see in a little while less students in the room and dusk create a safer environment the model creates consistency on Wednesday Thursday and Friday but I'm Monday and Tuesday the schedule not consistent for families in this we believe is going to pose a challenge and we hope that our model are modifications to this model will create more consistency this model also will create the need for additional hiring which is a budgetary issue so we've created our own modifications to be a remodel we're calling at the modified model to plan and I'm going to take you guys soon what that looks like so in this model we were going from three cohorts of students 2404 system and what that allows us to do is takes 32 students class in split them into four groups of eight each group has one consistent day of the week is Tuesday beyaz Wednesday C is Thursday and D is Friday and then a Mondays with a rotate there's also an ulcer plan that we're going to take you guys threw for what Monday's could look like with Mondays in the base plan with rotate with group a having Week 1 be having week 2 group she having week 3 Ingram G having week 4 and within a four-week span of time we would take our for student through having five days of in-person instructing doing adding an additional cocoa to create less students classroom and we're also been saying it will take an additional week to get students through that 5 days of impression instruction and like in the previous model when students are not in school participating a remote courses at home in both of the schedules you'll notice there was a group at the top that says all remote in our model which group is designated for students and families who requested to take 100% remote so we wanted to make sure that people know that that is an option you have to fill out a survey on the DMV website to request all remote work I'm Mister Ed and I'm a biology teacher high school I'll be discussing the rationale to the proposed model mr. Singh just spoke about would require the 12 students in a room with a minimum of one teacher for our ICT or kotatsu adding an additional teacher and potentially paraprofessional our plan would allow for a students in class with one teacher when adding a CO teacher and paraprofessional the total number of people in the room 211 the most part and its floodplain administrator goes in to observe for supervised or if the student receives a related service. I'm done that would be only four people in the room or second rationale has to do with higher the other proposed the only models of instruction would require as to hire additional staff members to service our students with the with the smaller classroom sizes can you shift back to full-time person instructions so all the students and the teachers will be in the building once again then we would need to access or let-go additional staff members that we hired to meet the other model in our proposed plan it will allow us to program all students efficiently without having to bring an additional staff members the third rationale does he only has advised that we consider programming students in a manner that limits movement around the building model allows to limit excessive movement during at a given time close a potential room grid that shows how we can limit the movement so this is just one wing on the third floor so we were looked at 3:10 all the way to 3:22 Section 102 would be in room 310 for. 1 2 and 3 then they would switch with Section 101 would be in the same room for periods 5 6 and 7 if you looked at 3:12 you would see room section 103 in the same room for. 1234. So less movement around the building thank you everybody this is mrs. Harris we're going to move on to just Esther alternate plan for Mondays as you see up top the base proposal is shown which shows group a students attending school on Tuesday Group B students attending school on Wednesday group C students attend school on Thursday students attending school on Friday and groupie students who are remote working from home everyday if you look at Monday There's a rotating schedule Week 1 group a students would go to school on Monday week 2 Group B students would go to school on Monday week 3 Group C students will go to school on Monday and week for Group D students will go score on Monday we've come up with an alternate plan which we believe will suit the needs of our students and staff members the best and we decided that Monday should be a fully remote. all students the rationale for this is that teachers will be able to invite students who are struggling in or one-on-one or small-group tutoring counseling and related services such as speech occupational therapy and physical therapy can be provided at this time essential clubs such as student government could take place on Monday and lastly teacher planning time for remote courses parent engagement and Grading of remote work could all take place on this remote Monday hi everyone I'm Mister Rickman I'm the course sure at Maspeth High School I am here to talk to you a little bit about the special considerations that we are making for the arts classes both Visual and Performing for the upcoming school year as it stands right now the plan is to do completely remote instruction for all of the Arts for a couple of reasons as previously mentioned in one of the other side's the Department of Education is recommending that students stay in the same group of students the same cohort so they're not shifting between teachers and classes constantly and coming into contact with other student if you know the Arts programs at our school students get to choose their Arts discipline so students in this new model staying in the same group that means that they would have no choice over any of their arts classes we don't want that to be the case so in order to allow them to still continue on an air track in their Arts course it means that we're going to do remote instruction there also a couple of additional considerations to be made with the Arts which I'm going to talk about right now because of the state guidance and limited limiting students what is share their materials Visual Arts courses students are constantly sharing colored pencils paint scissors glue sticks they're using the same paper cutter and things like that and in an attempt read the spread student should be sharing materials so visual arts courses can't really happen the same way in person the plan right now is to create some kind of care package to send students home with metal include some basic materials in order to complete the dance is another challenging course to do in person if we're wearing masks and if we're trying to remain distant as you know dancing the physical activity it's difficult to stay and choreograph within an 8 by 8 can it be done sure but based on the types of performances that we've done in the past and the things that are being asked is also sometimes physical contact and things like that easiest not to do in person when we talk about Chris try again when sharing instruments at least five different students are playing the same violin every single day in a typical classroom and that's just not possible anymore if we split the courses into a meeting once a week sometimes it can pose a challenge when you have two students on violin three students on viola and three students on face all of a sudden your Orchestra classic seven pairs down to eight and it makes for hurting really difficult Cedar Court is another challenge to do with an 8 by 8 box so especially if students need to do scenes where they're coming into physical contact with one another and again just not something that can be done in person but miss Ludlow has serious plans to do some really interesting project or the theater students to still get you to act at home and the last one is my district choir singing is not really conducive to wearing a mask because you put a piece of fabric or cloth right over your instrument and that deadens your sound choir class 8 can also be awkward for students to singing there's concerns about when students are articulating sometimes you get a little bit of spit out there in the air constantly breathing together and it's just not really conducive to preventing the spread of an Airborne virus so those are the consideration for the Arts we are meeting constantly talking constantly about how we can improve our courses and how we can make sure that a remote model is really conducive to all the waiting that we want to do this year after multiple conversations and attempts to plan for in-person PE we have decided that is in the best interest of the students and staff safety resumes the following five reasons one the recommendations require time how to change into PE gear before or after class FIFA size will have to be almost doubled this means students of different groups will be mixing during PE recommendation according to how many teachers are fruits we will be hosting a virtual town hall meeting what's the weather that there is a 300% capacity for the lights on.
